YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IS IMPORTANT
Philosophy & Style
We know the benefits of eating healthy, getting adequate sleep, and keeping our bodies active. Now we know our mental health is important too.
Building a trusting, non-judgmental relationship is the foundation of all therapeutic work we will do. I offer a collaborative, goal-oriented and direct approach while providing a supportive environment to empower you making effective changes. I aim to offer a safe, healing space while also gently pushing you beyond your comfort zone.
In sessions, you can expect that I will ask you, “What do you want to get out of your session today?” I will tailor my focus accordingly and gently guide you back if we move off track. I may also draw connections from your past into how they may impact you today. Sometimes, you may discover something on your own; other days, I may suggest reflections for further consideration. It is my hope you get something out of your sessions and time spent in therapy.
Thayer Counseling is LGBTQIA+ affirming and welcomes clients from all members of the community. I believe your race, ethnicity, gender identity, background and belief system are all important parts of who you are and how I can support you.
Background
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) who has worked with adults, adolescents, children and couples since 1998. I have worked in many sectors of the mental health field, ranging from non-profit community mental health to corporate behavioral healthcare and private practice. In 2011, I joined a group private practice and through multiple leadership roles, I led expansion efforts resulting in exponential growth and success across five states. After serving as the Executive Director, I decided to get back to my roots and focus more on direct practice with clients and consultation for therapists.
I have supervised interns, those working towards licensure and fully licensed therapists for over twenty years. I am honored to provide consultation in my work today, with specific interest in supporting those moving into private practice.
Moving Forward
I look forward to connecting with you, hearing your story, and learning what you want to get out of therapy. Knowing what you want to accomplish will help us identify areas of focus and direction ahead. I am excited to support you in making lasting, transformative changes.
